Editing builder campaign flows allows you to update the structure of a campaign after it has been created (but not activated).
Instead of rebuilding entire branches, you can make adjustments directly within the flow by adding or removing eligible action steps mid-flow while preserving existing builder campaign steps whenever possible.
This makes it easier to refine campaign sequences, adjust outreach strategies, and optimize workflows as your campaign evolves. For example, you can duplicate the existing builder campaign (that is currently sending) and change the sequence of the duplicated campaign, and try a different approach with a new audience.
Important: Campaign flow editing is available only for new builder campaigns that have never been activated. If a campaign has been activated at any point, its flow structure can no longer be modified.
In activated campaigns, you can still edit time delays and message content, but you cannot add, remove, or rearrange campaign steps.
The editing options described in this article apply to builder campaign actions only. The change does not apply to conditions.
Some limitations to editing steps apply; they are described later in the article.
How to add/insert action(s) in the middle of the flow?
If you have a builder campaign flow created that hasn't been activated yet, and would like to include more action steps in the middle of the sequence, please see how this can be done below.
Go to the 'My campaigns' page and click on your builder campaign draft to open it
Click on the 'Steps' tab
Click on the + (plus) button between 2 actions where you'd like to insert (add) one more builder campaign action
Now, click on one of the available actions displayed in the list, and it will be included in your flow. Only the actions that can be used in this part of a flow are clickable.
Once you click on the action, it will be included in your flow. Please see below
Once all the action steps are added, make sure to click on the save icon to save the flow
How to remove/delete action(s) from the middle of the flow?
If you have a builder campaign flow created that hasn't been activated yet, and would like to remove action steps in the middle of the sequence, please see how this can be done below.
Go to the 'My campaigns' page and click on your builder campaign draft to open it
Click on the 'Steps' tab
Find the action you'd like to remove from the flow, click on it, and click on the trashcan icon on it to delete it. The trashcan icon only appears after you click on the step
Click on the option 'Only this step' and the selected step will be removed from the middle of the flow
Make sure to click on the save icon to save changes afterwards
How to remove/delete the entire branch of actions (multiple actions)?
If you have a builder campaign flow created that hasn't been activated yet, and would like to remove a branch of steps in the sequence, please see how this can be done below.
Go to the 'My campaigns' page and click on your builder campaign draft to open it
Click on the 'Steps' tab
Let's say that you want to remove all the actions/steps that start from the 'Like a company post' action. The 'Like a company post' action should be deleted as well.
To delete a branch, select the step (action) where you want the deletion to begin. The selected action and all subsequent steps in that branch will be removed. After selecting the 'Like a company post' action, a trash can icon will appear on the step. Click on the trash can icon to proceed
Now, click on the option 'Entire branch' and the selected action, as well as all the subsequent steps in that branch, will be removed from the flow
Click on the 'Delete branch' button, and the branch will be deleted
After making changes, make sure to click on the save icon so the changes are saved
How do I undo or redo a change?
While you build or edit a draft flow, you can undo a change you didn't mean to make, and redo it if you change your mind. This works for the changes you make in the flow, like adding a step, removing a single step, or removing a whole branch.
You'll find the undo and redo buttons in the toolbar on the 'Steps' canvas.
To undo, click the back arrow, or press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac).
To redo, click the forward arrow, or press Ctrl+Shift+Z (Cmd+Shift+Z on Mac).
Undo and redo cover the actions you take in the flow. If you delete a single step or an entire branch by mistake, undo brings it back, including all the steps and conditions in that branch.
Please note: the undo and redo history is only kept for your current session. If you reload the page or leave the campaign, the history clears and you won't be able to undo those earlier changes. So don't treat undo as a backup: click the save icon to keep your changes.
Undo and redo work on draft campaigns only. Once a campaign is activated, its flow can no longer be edited, so these buttons don't apply to live campaigns.
Can I save a campaign before it's finished?
You can save a builder campaign as a draft at any time, even if some steps are still empty or have errors. You don't need to complete every step before saving, so you can build or edit a campaign across several sessions without losing your progress.
The builder also saves your changes automatically as you work. You can still click on the save icon at any point to save manually.
Make sure to click on the save icon before exiting the campaign to ensure you have saved the latest changes.
Please note: saving a campaign as a draft does not turn it on. A campaign that still has errors cannot be activated until you fix them. Warnings won't stop you from activating a campaign, but errors will. For the full steps on turning a campaign on, please see How to Activate a Campaign?
Additionally, the system will highlight any steps that are incomplete or need your attention, such as those missing a message or required configuration settings. This makes it easy to identify what still needs fixing and return later to finish setting up your campaign sequence. Please learn more in Campaign Builder Errors and Warnings.
Once your Builder campaign sequence is fully configured and all steps are complete, you'll be able to activate the campaign. Please note that campaigns cannot be activated while any step remains incomplete. If a step is missing a message or required settings, you'll need to finish configuring it before activation becomes available.
Limitations
Some limitations are applied when it comes to adding/removing builder campaign actions in the flow.
Campaign flow editing is available only for Builder campaigns that have never been activated. Once a campaign has been activated, you can only edit time delays and message content. Adding, removing, or rearranging steps is not supported in live campaigns.
Only builder campaign action items can be added or removed with a single-step removal option. Conditions cannot be added or removed when editing a flow.
When it comes to removing an entire branch (not a single action), conditions would also be removed with the branch.
When adding a step mid-flow, only actions that can be placed in the selected part of the flow are displayed.
Some steps cannot be removed because later steps in the flow depend on them. When this happens, you may need to delete the entire branch instead.
The undo and redo history is only kept for your current session. If you reload the page or leave the campaign, you can't undo earlier changes.
